Using Actinic as an Administrator

If you are logged into Actinic as an administrator then you have complete access to all the features within Actinic.

Please note, however, that while you make any changes to areas such as 'Business Settings' or 'Discounts and Surcharges Settings' that order processing will be suspended, and no-one connected as an order processor will be able to do anything.

User Management

The 'Users' column in the order summary list will tell you when an order is being processed by one of the order processors.

To view/edit the users that have access to the Actinic database, go to 'Settings | Users'. The options in this window are described below:

Feature

Description

User List

Lists all users set up within the Actinic installation. The 'Logged on' column will show a computer name if that user is currently logged-on to Actinic. Otherwise it will just show '- -'.

Add...

Add a new user to the system. This is described in 'Adding a New User' below.

Remove

Highlight a user and then click this button to remove them as a user.

Password

Highlight a user and then click this button to change the user's password.

Log out

Highlight a user and then click this button to log the user out of Actinic.

WARNING: If the order processor is half-way through processing an order when you log them out, the changes to the order will be lost.

Options...

Use this option to set how long a customer can be idle for before they are automatically logged-out of Actinic. This is useful in case a PC crashes without someone logging out.

Enable User Login Feature

De-select this box if you don't want people logging in. Use this if you want to perform maintenance on Actinic.

Adding a New User

Go to 'Settings | Users' and select 'Add....'. The fields in this new window are described below:

Administrator

Select this option if you want the user to be an Administrator. You can have as many Administrators as you want, but only one can log in as an Administrator at any one time.

Changing the Location of the Shared Database

If you are logged in as an Administrator, you can change the location of the Actinic database. To do this, go to 'File | Sites' and select 'Sites Directory...'. The options within this are described below:

Option

Description

Directory

Specify/select the new 'Sites' directory, which will contain the 'Site1' (or equivalent) folders.

If you are moving your site(s) then this is the folder they will be moved to.

If you are creating a new site, then this is the folder the new 'Site1' (or equivalent) folder will be created within.

If you are connecting to a different Actinic site, then you need to enter the location of the site you want to connect to.
