Selecting Your Online Payment Methods

The 'Payment and Security' tab in Business Settings ('Settings | Business Settings | Payment and Security') is used to set up how you will take payment for your online orders.

Your payment methods are selected and configured within the main grid in this tab.

You can add a new row in the grid by clicking the '+' at the top-left of the grid. You can delete a row by right-clicking and selecting 'Delete Row'.

The settings within this grid are as follows:

Fall Back

This is the payment method that will be offered to customers if no other payment method is applicable for the customer's invoice and shipping locations.

Limit to Defined Customers

Actinic Business/Designer only

Tick this option if you want this payment option to be exclusive to nominated registered customers, thus excluding retail customers.

Only customers that have this payment method selected in the 'Payment Method' field in the 'Accounts' tab of a customer account will be able to use this method online. For more information see Entering Main Account Details.

To change the order of the rows, use the up and down arrows to the right of the grid. The order that the payment methods are in here, will be the order that they are presented to your customers.

Click 'Configure Method' (if active) to edit the details of your chosen payment method.

Different Ways of Taking Payment

There are two ways of taking payments: Online and Offline.

·      Online - If you want people to pay for the goods whilst they are online then you need to use a 'Payment Service Provider'. These are at the bottom of the 'Payment Method' drop-down and are discussed in What Is A Payment Service Provider?.

·      Offline - An offline payment method is a payment method that does not involve any kind of online transaction. There are two types:

Credit Card: This is the 'Credit card details captured for later processing' method. With this method, customers enter their credit card details into the Actinic store online. These details are then securely encrypted and downloaded with the order. You will then process these credit card details through your credit-card terminal. If you are using this method, then you need to organise security for your store, which is discussed in Securing Your Online Store.

Non-Credit Card: e.g. 'Cheque on Delivery', 'Cash on Delivery', 'Invoice with Order', 'Credit Card details sent separately' etc. etc. These are payment methods where the payment details are sorted out by directly contact with the customer after receiving the order.

If a customer has no valid payment methods available, normally due to being in a country/state with no valid payment methods, then this text will be shown to a customer online.

This is not necessary (and is therefore hidden) if a 'Fallback' payment method is selected. See above.
