The 'Housekeeping' menu contains options for:
· Upgrading to different Actinic versions
· Purging deleted items out of the database
· Compacting the databases
· Managing the warnings in Actinic
· Backing up your data
· Reviewing your security information
· Encrypting credit card data
If you are using Catalog or Business then you can select the 'Housekeeping | Upgrade.' menu option to enter a license key for a different Actinic program (e.g. upgrade Catalog to Business).
More details are in Upgrading To New Actinic Versions.
Certain items in the Actinic database can be marked for deletion by pressing the [Delete] key on the keyboard (or, in some cases, clicking the 'Remove' button). You can remove them permanently by selecting the appropriate 'Purge' option from the 'Housekeeping' menu.
· Purge Orders - Permanently remove any orders in the database that are marked for deletion.
· Purge Emails - Permanently remove any emails in the system that are marked for deletion.
· Purge Catalog - Permanently remove any items in the content tree that are marked for deletion.
· Purge Customer Accounts - Permanently remove any customer accounts (or any buyers/addresses within those accounts) that are marked for deletion.
The action of purging items from your store removes the data from your application, but doesn't remove the storage space from the underlying database. This is just a feature of the type of database Actinic uses.
However, the 'Housekeeping | Compact Databases' menu option will purge the database of redundant information and keep your system running at maximum performance.
The 'Compact Databases' option allows compaction of the Actinic database and/or the shipping database (where the space for deleted shipping bands still exists).
Actinic will shut down when you carry out the compaction.
Many of the warnings in Actinic include the option to 'never show this warning again'. If you want to see the list of available warnings, and reinstate them if necessary, select this option.
This option contains settings for how often Actinic asks you to backup, and also the option to reinstate backed-up data.
More detail is in Backing Up Your Online Store.
This option allows you to view the security keys used by Actinic to encrypt orders on your store.
The options in this window are as follows:
Field |
Meaning |
Encryption Key |
This key is used by Actinic to encrypt the credit card information provided by customers online. If you uploading on one machine, and downloading onto another (see Orders In Actinic) then you must make sure this key is identical between the two machines. |
Authorization Key |
The key that was used to license your copy of Actinic. |
Username |
In normal mode, this field is used for the light encryption. All order information is encrypted with a light level of encryption to ensure that order details are not stored in plain text on the server. In pre-configured mode (see Pre-configured (Trial) Copies of Actinic) these details are given to you when you register your copy of Actinic. |
Password |
As above. |
Shop ID Pre-configured mode only (see Pre-configured (Trial) Copies of Actinic) |
The ID of your shop on the pre-configured Actinic server. |
This option will encrypt all the credit card data held in the database, so that if someone tries to access the ActinicCatalog.mdb database directly, they will not be able to access any card details.
