The chapter called Page Layouts tells you how to choose different overall page layouts for the pages in your site.
There are also many other layouts that can be changed in Actinic without having to go into the 'Design' tab. You simply need to:
1. Go to the 'Layout' tab of the item you want to change. If there is no correct setting in the 'Layout' tab (or even any 'Layout' tab at all) then check the list below and look in the 'Where It Can Be Changed' column.
2. Locate the setting in the grid for changing the layout.
3. Choose a different layout from the drop-down provided
4. Click 'Apply'.
The layouts that can be changed from the 'Layout' tab are as follows:

If changing a setting in Actinic appears to have no effect, it could be because a 'Fixed Layout' is being used, and the layout has been hard-coded in the design. For more information on 'Fixed Layouts' see Using Layout Selectors.
Where more than one location is mentioned in the 'Where It Can Be Changed' column, it means that the value is set in 'Site Options' and then can be overridden from within the content tree. This principle is explained in Use Parent.
These fields show what is in Actinic by default, but it is possible to change where these settings appear, or if they appear at all. See Using Layout Selectors for more details on this.
If you want to create a new layout in Actinic, based on an existing one, then use the following steps.
(The steps shown are based on product layouts)
1. Select a product (or other item) in the content tree that you would like to change the layout of.
2. Switch to the 'Layout' tab.
3. Locate the 'Select Product Layout' setting.
4. In the drop-down list provided, scroll all the way to the bottom until you reach '<New>', and then select it.
5. In the new window, enter a name for your new layout and also select an existing layout to base your new layout on. This will essentially make a new copy of the layout for you to use.
6. Click 'OK'
You will now be able to select your new layout in the 'Layout' tab.
