Quantity-Based Pricing

Note: This feature is only available in Actinic Business/Designer.

Within the 'Prices' tab of a product (the 'Prices/Permutation Prices' area within a component) it is possible to set up a quantity-dependent pricing system.

This allows you to provide a different unit price for each item depending on how many of them are added to the shopping cart by a customer.

The relevant settings within the 'Prices' grid are as follows:

Field

Meaning

Customer Group

Select the customer group (price schedule) that this price will apply to. If you are just doing this for your normal (non logged-in) customers, then leave it as 'Retail'.

For information about setting up customer groups, please see Customer Groups.

Price

Enter the new price per item that customers will pay when they order at least the quantity in the 'Min' field.

Min

Enter the minimum quantity that customers must have in their shopping cart in order to pay the price in the 'Price' field.

To create a quantity-dependent pricing system, do the following:

1.  Go to the 'Prices' grid of the product or component you wish to set up quantity-dependent pricing for.

2.  Click the '+' at the top left-hand corner of the grid.

3.  In the new row created, select the customer group that you wish to create quantity-dependent pricing for in the 'Customer Group' field.

4.  Within the 'Min' column, enter the lower limit of the first new quantity band you wish to define. Note that the initial row of the customer group (the one where the 'Customer Group' field is in grey) will automatically become the lowest (first) band of your quantity-based pricing system.

5.  Enter the price per unit of the product within your new quantity band within the 'Price' column.

6.  Repeat steps 2 to 5 until you have created all the quantity bands you require. The last band you create will become the highest band, with an unlimited maximum limit.

7.  To remove a row from the grid, right-click and select 'Delete Row'.

Note: You have to define these quantity-breaks separately within each customer group (see Customer Groups).

Setting This Up With Difference Choices

If you just have attributes and choices within a product (but no components) and then you set up quantity-dependent pricing within the product, then the online store will ignore any difference in choices made by the customer online when calculating the unit price. In other words, it will work out the discount based on the amount of products ordered, no matter what choices are selected.

If you want the quantity-based pricing to be worked out on different choices separately then you need to use a component, and then create the attributes and choices within the component (see Making Customer Selection Affect Price and Stock Level for details). You can then enter the quantity-breaks separately for each choice. You do this within the 'Permutations' tab of the component.

Because you are now entering prices into the component rather than the product, you will then need to set the 'Pricing Model' of the product (within the 'Prices' tab of the product) to 'Sum of Component Prices'.
