Layouts, content lists and layout selectors are grouped by
'type'. You will see these type groups in the 'Layouts' tab. They have a icon.
When you expand a type group, you will see the layouts, layout selectors and lists within that group. To edit an item, just double-click on it.
· Layouts are discussed in Editing Layouts
· Layout selectors and discussed in Editing Layout Selectors
· Lists are discussed in Editing a Content List
Double-click on an item in the Library to edit it.
The following options are available by doing a right-click:
Option |
Description |
New Layout Type |
Add a new layout type group into the tree. You only really need to do this if you are adding a whole new type of layout into the design. |
New Layout |
Add a new layout into the current layout type group. You will need to give the new layout a name. If you right click on a layout and select 'New Layout', the layout will be a copy of the selected one. |
New Selector |
Add a new layout selector to the layout type group. |
Rename |
Renames the item. If you cannot rename an item, it will be because the name of the layout has been specified in the design with a 'Fixed Layout'. See Using Layout Selectors for a description of this. |
Edit |
Edit the properties of the item. |
Find |
Search throughout the entire library for a particular value. |
Copy |
Makes a copy of the current item. |
Delete |
To delete an item, right-click on it and select 'Delete'. If 'Delete' is greyed out, it is because of one of the following reasons: - The layout selector in question is used within the design - The layout/list is selected explicitly in the design with a 'fixed layout'. - The layout/list is one of the values of a 'layout selector' within the current type group. |
Revert to Factory Settings |
If you have made a change to a layout and don't know how to get it back to how it was, you can right-click on any layout in the library and select 'Revert to Factory Settings'. |
When you right-click on a layout in the library, you are given the option to 'Revert To Factory Settings'. This allows you to change a customised layout back to what it looked like when you first started Actinic.
You can also right-click on a customised layout and select 'Compare With Factory Version' to view the changes between the original factory version and the current customised version.
To highlight any customised layouts in the 'Layouts' tab, select the 'Highlight Customised Layouts With (*)' checkbox.
When creating a new layout type group, you need to specify what type of layouts you want to create in the group. You have three choices:
· Standard - If you just want to create standard layouts, leave it set to this option.
· Popup - Use this option if you want the layouts within the group to be generated as separate pages by Actinic. As an example, you would use this option if you were creating additional pop-up windows for your products (see the 'Advanced User Guide' for details on this).
· Lists - Select this option if you are creating new lists within Actinic. You need to then specify what type of list you are creating.
If you are creating standard layouts, you get the further option of stating what type of layout selectors will be created in the new group:
· Standard - Select this option if your layouts are just standard normal layouts.
· Inner Layout - Select this option if your layouts are going to be used as the main bulk area (or 'inner layout') for one or more of your pages.
· Outer Layout - Select this option if your layouts will be used as 'overall page layouts' (or 'outer layouts') for one or more of your store pages.
99 times out of 100 you would just leave these two options set to 'Standard' and Actinic would work as expected.
If you select either 'Outer Layout' or 'Inner Layout' then you need to go on and say what type of page you want to create with your new layouts and layout selectors.
· Web Page - Select this option if you plan to use your new layouts to create web pages for your store.
· Email - Select this option if you plan to use your new layouts to create emails.
